The ‘Hands-On-Day’ is our own annual event, and our excuse to celebrate what we do, and share it with like-minded people.  As each year passes, the event gets bigger and bigger…. with visitors coming from far afield, we welcome those we recognise from the Hampshire Coppice Craftsmens’ Group, and the Dorset Coppice Group, along with our own members from across the borders, coming in from Kent and Hertfordshire.  We were also happy to see so many representatives from other craft, wildlife, woodland and conservation groups – thanks everyone for coming!

The main aim of the day is to get your hands dirty, with as many members as can, demonstrating their chosen field, you just walk  up to them and ask “can I have a go?”      …then simply enjoy, as hilarity ensues…         …scroll down to see the rest of the photos…

the crowd eagerly awaits the start!

We also hold a ‘Tools’ Auction, which this year seemed to go beyond just hand tools, to power tools and chainsaws, timber, towing accessories, reference books, and various other things people found in the back of their sheds – it was great – but definitely a ‘mates rates’ auction, knowing everything you sell will be going to a good home…

With lunch and soft drinks provided by the Group, and an evening meal courtesy of Dave Rosney (Esus Forestry), it is also a very social event.  With the option of overnight camping both before and after the main event, many members made a weekend of it with BYO alcohol for the evenings.

Scroll down to see the photos from the day, but first, please read all the lovely comments below, left on the day in our “Feedback Book”, our thanks to all those who contributed…..Please feel free to leave comments regarding your own experience at this year’s ‘Hands-On-Day’, using the ‘comments’ function at the bottom of this page.  We are also welcoming suggestions for next year as we strive to improve further!
